TROPHIES FOR EXCELLENCE IN OUR HOBBY

As part of the ongoing system of active promotions in support of the hobby the IFOCAS Founders have sponsored a series of annual award which may be won by IFOCAS members worldwide. All grades of IFOCAS membership are eligible for these awards

Initially there have been four awards sponsored, but any organization wishing to sponsor further awards will be welcomed. Sponsors can state their own criterion for the award they sponsor and the name will be chosen by the sponsoring organization.

The categories will be chosen for the year 2001 by a majority vote of the founders. It is hoped that by 2002 the membership will be able to vote online directly for categories. Members are expected to vote online or by post for the recipients of these four initial awards.

1. The Ken Pye Trophy

2. The Frank Stone Trophy

3. The Jack Stillwell Trophy

4. The Marine Study Trophy

The first of these trophies is named in honour of a past General Secretary of the Federation of British Aquatic Societies, who at the height of its activities guided the Federation from strength to strength. It will be awarded to the webmaster of the winning member's site.Ken is now rather ill and lives in retirement in Canada.

The second of these trophies is also named in honour of the late Frank Stone, an ex-FBAS Chairman whose unorthodox approach to sorting out problems was his hallmark. It will be awarded to an individual who has made a unique contribution to the hobby and improved its overall status and credibility.

The third trophy will be awarded for that most elusive of qualities, staying power. It is named in honour of a man who has spent more than fifty years promoting our hobby, firstly as the guiding light and formative influence behind Portsmouth and Diostrict Aquatic Society and more recently as President of the Federation of British Aquatic Societies

The last trophy, number four, will be awarded to the group, company or individual who has done the most in the last year to promote marine fishkeeping and conservation - a tricky duo.
